Steve + Mirae’s April fools wedding at London Rowing Club

I had the huge pleasure of photographing the brilliant London wedding of my good friends, Steve and Mirae. On April Fools Day no less! They met while working in the middle-east and their love blossomed when they moved back to London. Guests had travelled from all over the world to be with the couple on their big day which started off with a Church ceremony followed by a reception at the London Rowing Club, Putney.
One of the things that I love most about being a wedding photographer is having the opportunity to experiencing different traditions and cultures. So, it was great to see a blend of Mirae’s Korean and Steve’s Scottish heritage coming together throughout the wedding. Red, being auspicious in Asian tradition, was the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses and the wedding flowers. Steve and his groomsmen wore traditional kilts and sporrans and had rose & thistle buttonholes. Everyone looked amazing, most of all Mirae, of course!
The Ceremony
With great arches and beautiful stained glass, St Winefride’s Church in Wimbledon is spectacular. Following the lovely ceremony, guests piled onto an old London Routemaster bus and were swept off to the London Rowing Club by the Thames in Putney for the reception.
This gave me a chance to head to Bishops Park with the newly weds for their portraits. This was a great location as it was just across the river from the London Rowing Club! Whilst taking their portraits, passers-by would congratulate Steve and Mirae. An unexpected guest even joined us…a shaggy haired brown pooch who had strayed from his owner’s leash to pose for the camera!
London Rowing Club
Decked out in fairy lights and flowers, the historic oak-beamed room at the rowing club was ready for the wedding breakfast. Steve and Mirae had a very cool London Underground themed table plan; and had kindly made donations to charity on behalf of their guests. A nice twist on traditional favours! The hilarious speeches were followed by the couples first dance. I even saw my first ever Gangam Style dance-off!
Here are some of my fave’s from the day, enjoy!
