London Hindu Wedding – Shree Swaminarayan Temple
This beautiful London Asian wedding started in Harrow at the grooms family home. The Hindu wedding ceremony was held at the Shree Swaminarayan Temple – Dharma Bhakti Manor in Stanmore. This asian wedding was full of fun, laughter, traditional Hindu ceremonies, and a lot of confetti! As a London Asian wedding photographer, I had the opportunity to work with the talented and lovely Bhavna Barratt 🙂
From the moment I walked into the grooms family home, I was treated like a member of the family. Since this always increases the chances of capturing real intimate family moments, as a result I was looking forward to the ceremony. A marquee was setup in the back garden for the baraat (grooms wedding party). The dhol played and all his friends family lined his exit from the marquee before finally leaving in a classic 1957 Bentley S1 Cloud.
Probably the most noisiest part of the day was arriving at Shree Swaminarayan Temple – Dharma Bhakti Manor. The dhol was playing and dandiya and dancing with the bride’s family and friends receiving the baraat. With almost all of the baraat in the temple, the ceremonies began. First of all, the ‘antarpat’ was placed in front of the groom before the bride arrived. This was the start of the Hindu wedding ceremonies; from mutually agreeing to marry each other (Mangalashtakam & Sankalpa), to the couple circling the sacred fire to start their Marriage journey (Laja Homa & Agni Pradakshina) and taking their marriage vows (Saptapadi)…and of course, no asian wedding is ever complete without the obligatory shoe-hiding tradition (jootaa chupai)! 🙂
Almost all Asian weddings are so hectic, so I think it’s important that time is set aside to get some wedding portraits of the bride and groom. Take a look at my favourite photos from this fun filled London Hindu wedding.
